Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 2:Earth Volume 3
Ages: Everyone

The adventure continues. Aang leaves to search for his flying bison, Appa, leaving the others to negotiate the desert. Finally everyone, including Uncle Iroh and Zuko are on their way to the wonderful walled-city of Ba Sing Se. Of course, Aang and his companions decide to help a desperate family of refugees and therefore must traverse the more dangerous route – the Serpent's Pass. When they finally make it through the Serpent's Pass they see a huge drill, courtesy of the Fire Nation, about to drill through the wall around Ba Sing Se. Working together, earth, air and water, the Benders manage to immobilize the drill before it gets through the wall. Finally all make it into the city, eager to inform the head Earth King about what they found out about the effect the eclipse has on the Firebenders. But all is not well in Ba Sing Se City – they are controlled by an ever smiling Joo Dee, a city guide who keeps them from freely talking with the citizens; war is not allowed to be mentioned; they are unable to get to the King and finally – they have been put under close watch by Long Feng, head of the secret police.

There are some nice touches in this volume. A pregnant refugee gives birth to a baby and names it Hope. Soka enters into a haiku encounter with a teacher and gets thrown our because one of his lines has six instead of five syllables. A nice introduction to haiku that children may remember years later.
